all of that on my Kylux reverse bang, because life has been an absolute shitshow since wednesday and I only calmed down enough today to get back to it. and tomorrow will be monday, so i'll be back to freaking the fuck out as soon as the sun's up, most likely.

at least the hockey was good. i was so fucking certain they were going to go into overtime but NOPE, two goals at the end there, like just one wasn't good enough to win, they had to emphasize it. now i can go back to pretending hockey doesn't exist until the next playoffs start, ahahah /bad fan

Star Wars Ep VII: TFA
Poe Dameron/Finn
7k words; T for Teen
Written for the 2017 May The 4th Exchange

There's no pain when Finn wakes up from taking a lightsaber to the back, just a woozy swoop and dip from all the meds in his IV and his first time seeing a Wookie doctor. He's fully cognisant for all of ten minutes before they put him under again, and when they let him wake up this time the entire Resistance has moved house from D'Qar to D'Way.

"You've got to be kidding me," he croaks at some pilot standing there, a short, light-skinned woman wearing long braids who looks like she wants to be anywhere else.

"It was Poe's joke, don't piss on the messenger," she says, then wrinkles her nose in reconsideration. "Or throw your bed pan at me."

hark! The only time I will (probably) ever write Stormpilot!

With perseverance and no small amount of luck, I'll have the pinch hit done and posted on the 6th, or the 8th at the absolute latest. *spins in place*

The May the 4th Collection is live! I'll do a proper link to my contribution on the 8th when the reveals are set, but in the meantime yesssss, more Star Wars to claw through.

I received two fics! Both are Han/Leia-- One is Fast, Thorough, and Sharp as a Tack, a post-New Hope fic where Leia is getting her feet under her with Han trying to help and is oh so so good on the OTP FEELS. The second is A Blossoming Tundra, a treat where Han gives Leia a flower on Hoth that made me SCREECH WITH HAPPINESS :D All the glee! All of it!

Thinking of signing up for [community profile] het_bigbang, but I need to make a timeline of my current deadlines to see where it falls and if it is thus doable. I automatically write m/m and f/f everywhere, so signing up for a challenge that INSISTS on heterosexual relationships would be a nice excuse to roam out of my comfort zone. And maybe (MAYBE) I could write more Sam/Moses. Cough cough cough or some Poe/Leia cough cough.

Played through D-District Prison in FF8 last night when I was too tired to write but not tired enough to sleep. I might've just been a Too Serious Child, but I do not remember the goofy dialogue AT ALL from when I played it constantly as a kid/teenager. Huh.

Was also thinking of other PSX games I'd like to see ported, and Legend of Dragoon was a fucking good one. Shit god damn did I love that battle system.

IT'S POSTED. My May the 4th fic has been posted, and idk when the reveals are but when my name is attached to it I'll be posting a link here. AHAHAHAHA I'M DONE! DONE!!!!!

My project for the rest of the month is to finish formatting hooversuck so that'll be all posted and done with on ao3 before MYWYN starts. I'll also be poking at various WIPs I've been sitting on to see where I can form a (reasonable) expectation of finishing, but eh, not setting the bar for that terribly high.

Humble Book Bundle: Berkley Breathed Collection. All of Bloom County for $15? Sign! Me! Up!!!

If you haven't read his stuff before, he's one of those cartoonists who used to go after Trump waaaay back in the 80s. And he came out of retirement as soon as Trump got the GOP nomination, so that's uh. One single good thing that came out of that clusterfuck. I guess. Erm...

I haven't read any of his Outland or OPUS strips, so I'm looking forward to getting that downloaded. But yaaaaay, Bloom County!

All of that on my May the 4th fic, which is currently at 5.6k. It should be done a few days before deadline. Yes, it should. IT REALLY REALLY SHOULD. (Trying to convince myself as much as you, here.)

Starting to figure out what to write for MYWYN, since CampNaNo was such a miserable failure this month. The biopunk novel is dead in the water so I better try something (anything) else or it'll just be more of the same.

Here’s the thing: I don’t doubt that Wallace is a genius. And it’s not that I believe there’s no value in self-indulgent works by men. It’s just that I’m not very interested in them. These men seem to think I’m saying the thing they love is bad, when really I’m just saying I don’t care about the thing they love.

Men Recommend David Foster Wallace to Me by Deirdre Coyle

I read Infinite Jest maybe ten years ago. It was full of ten-cent words that were clearly there to make the "cultured" critics masturbate furiously in response, a total slog to get through, and I found myself wishing I had picked up anything else to read instead. But the concept was interesting, so of course I finished it :/

You won't be able to pay me to read the rest of his narcissistic claptrap. Kudos to Coyle for managing to keep the bile down long enough to persevere.

Still blankly staring at the 619-word outline on my May the 4th fic. Come ooooonnnnnn, self, get it together and get it done.

Mass Effect 2 is at 50% downloaded! And after only 10 days! As much as I detest how clumsy Origin is as a client, I will acknowledge that when they brag about "optimized downloads" they are actually not lying. Who knew!

At this rate I might be able to play before the end of the month, which would be fantastic. GARRUS VAKARIAN, I'M COMING AFTER YOU.

Actually, my Paragade fem!Shep save will probably stick with Kaidan because I'm curious about how much more horrible the romance dialogue can get between those two. But when I replay as a Renegade fem!Shep, then Garrus better watch out. Oh yeah.

Money came in, so I got a paid account for a year. My LJ hasn't been paid in years and years so only fifteen of my icons ported, whoops. Been uploading and culling off and on all day. One of the two reasons I hadn't left LJ before now was because of my icons, so I'm happy to have that part mostly resolved.

(The other reason is having to abandon the hellboy name. DAMNIT, STILL BITTER.)

New Star Wars trailer is out. Meh. I saw some leaked spoiler info that may or may not be true re: one of the villains; comparing the said theory to the trailer footage, I'm guessing the leak was genuine. So my fandom participating will probably only last until Christmas, unless I decide to invest in fix-it.

If Finn is asleep for even half of that film (or more) I will be SO FUCKING ANGRY. John Boyega deserves better than that. All you have to do is point at Attack The Block and you can see that he deserves better than that.

Also could've used some Leia other than just a quick shot of her back with some voice over that I actually didn't hear clearly. All those whispering ~~~~voices~~~~ don't really do it for me, but that just might be a matter of taste. Will of course wait for the movie to come out before I get critical.

Just not hyped, that's all. Maybe the next teaser will do better for me.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
General Hux/Kylo Ren | Ben Organa Solo
5k words; M for Mature; Graphic Depictions of Violence

Hux does not wince at the sight of a ragtag gathering of misfits who managed to successfully repel a First Order-sanctioned Planet Acquisition. But he wants to.

"The General of the Resistance will not proceed with negotiations for a ceasefire unless Lord Ren is in attendance," the old Mon Calamari says. Organa is standing just behind his shoulder and glowering at the screen like a raging wall of righteous vengeance. Or like an upset mother.

Hux cants his head a minutiae to the left and surreptitiously eyeballs Phasma. She shakes her head. He flicks his attention back to the holoscreen, grins with all his teeth at Organa's pinched face.

"I'm afraid Lord Ren is currently in medical so a medroid can shove his intestines back into his abdomen. May I take a message?"
